Sustainability Policy

At White Space Agency, we recognise that businesses have a responsibility to operate in a way that is environmentally conscious, socially responsible, and sustainable for future generations. As a digital marketing and web development agency based in the UK, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint, promoting green practices, and continuously improving our environmental performance – in alignment with B Corp values.

We believe that business can be a force for good, and this policy outlines the concrete actions we take to uphold that belief.

In order to maintain and develop our sustainability credentials, we have the following documents available to view/download:

Environmental Principles

Our sustainability efforts are guided by the following core principles:

  • Reduce – Minimise resource consumption and waste across all operations
  • Reuse – Prioritise reuse of equipment, materials, and digital assets before replacement
  • Recycle – Ensure proper recycling of all applicable materials and hardware
  • Rethink – Continuously review processes to find greener alternatives
  • Restore – Where possible, contribute to environmental restoration efforts
  • Responsibility – Hold ourselves and our partners accountable to green standards

Digital Operations & Green Web Practices

As a digital-first agency, the majority of our environmental impact sits within our digital infrastructure and supply chain – often referred to as Scope 3 emissions. We take the following steps to reduce this impact:

  • Green Hosting: We prioritise and recommend web hosting providers that operate on renewable energy or hold verified green credentials for all client and agency websites
  • Efficient Code & Design: We build lean, performance-optimised websites and applications that reduce data transfer, server load, and therefore energy consumption
  • Sustainable Web Design: We follow sustainable web design principles – minimising unnecessary page weight, optimising images and media, and reducing unnecessary JavaScript execution
  • Carbon-Aware Recommendations: When advising clients on digital strategy, we factor in the environmental impact of technology choices, including platforms, plugins, and third-party services
  • Remote-First Working: Our remote and hybrid working model significantly reduces commuting-related emissions compared to traditional office environments

Office & Day-to-Day Operations

  • Paperless Policy: We operate as a paperless agency wherever possible, using digital tools for all documentation, contracts, reporting, and communication
  • Energy Efficiency: Any office or workspace used by the agency is operated with energy efficiency in mind – using energy-saving devices, LED lighting, and powering down equipment when not in use
  • Sustainable Procurement: When purchasing hardware, software, or supplies, we prioritise suppliers with demonstrable sustainability credentials and longer product lifecycles
  • Equipment Reuse & Recycling: We extend the life of hardware wherever possible, donating or recycling equipment responsibly rather than sending it to landfill
  • Travel: Business travel is minimised through the use of video conferencing tools. Where travel is necessary, we opt for lower-emission transport options

Carbon Footprint & Measurement

We are committed to understanding and reducing our carbon emissions across all three scopes:

Scope 1 – Direct emissions from any agency-owned vehicles or equipment
Scope 2 – Indirect emissions from purchased energy
Scope 3 – Supply chain and purchased goods/services emissions, which for digital agencies typically represent the majority of total footprint

We commit to:

  • Periodically calculating our carbon footprint using recognised tools and methodologies
  • Setting measurable reduction targets and tracking progress annually
  • Publishing transparency reports as part of our B Corp recertification journey

Supply Chain & Client Partnerships

We actively encourage clients to adopt sustainable digital practices and will include sustainability considerations in our strategic recommendations

  • We favour partnerships with suppliers, platforms, and vendors who share our commitment to environmental responsibility
  • We are transparent with clients about the environmental impact of their digital presence where data is available

B Corp Alignment

This policy directly supports our B Corp accreditation journey by addressing the Environment Impact Topic. Specifically, we work towards meeting requirements related to:

  • Environmental management practices
  • Air, climate, and energy impact reduction
  • Supply chain engagement and transparency
  • Ongoing improvement with measurable targets and third-party verification

We are committed to achieving the minimum requirements and to participating in third-party assurance as required by the updated standards.

Responsibilities

  • Agency Lead(s) – Policy ownership, annual review, B Corp reporting
  • All Team Members – Adhere to policy, suggest improvements, report concerns
  • Project Leads – Embed sustainability considerations in client project scoping
  • Suppliers & Contractors – Expected to demonstrate alignment with this policy

Review & Continuous Improvement

This policy will be reviewed annually, or sooner if there are significant changes to the agency’s operations, the B Lab Standards, or UK environmental regulations. We welcome feedback from our team, clients, and stakeholders to help us improve our sustainability performance year on year.

Our Pledge

White Space Agency pledges to use business as a force for good – not just for our clients and community, but for the planet. We are proud to be working towards B Corp certification as a demonstration of our ongoing commitment to people, planet, and purpose.
