Project overview

A well-respected century-old coffee brand sought a modern approach for its brand identity while preserving its heritage

Costa Rica Plantation Company entrusted us with crafting a new brand identity. Honouring the brand’s century-old heritage and following thorough research, including the development of mood boards and multiple brand identity concepts, we arrived at a design featuring a coffee sack motif paired with an artisan script font for the ‘Costa Rica’ emblem, complemented by a sleek sans-serif font for ‘Coffee’, while infusing hints to the respected coffee producers of Ethiopia and Colombia.

Packaging design

The much renowned Jamaican Blue Mountain region is home to some of the best coffee in the world; so naturally warranted quality packaging to match.

Costa Rica Plantation Company then enlisted our expertise to design packaging for their world-exclusive product—the rare Jamaica Blue Mountain coffee beans – that embodied luxury. 

This included a deluxe package housing the beans, accompanied by a compact concertina booklet detailing the beans’ origin and certificate of authenticity, akin to a limited edition print. The lid and barrel labels of the air-sealed clamp tin were printed on foil label stock, using a striking solid black hue that contrasted elegantly to reveal an electric blue foil colour and crisp white text..

Sustainable design

This initiative, spanning from Ethiopia to the UK, supports local growers and wildlife conservation in the heart of Ethiopia.

For their next product range, we needed to promote native wildlife conservation efforts in Ethiopia while also supporting local coffee growers engaged in animal conservation. Following numerous creatives, ‘Wild Coffee’ was born.

We ensured any packaging created balanced a modern look and feel with a spotlight on endangered species, namely the Ethiopian Black Rhino, Ethiopian Wolf, and Ethiopian Zebra – all of which were prominently featured on the packaging. Informative panels were added to the coffee packs to help raise awareness whilst creating eye-catching displays.

The results

The end result was a blend of classic and modern, to create the perfect brew

From striking packaging to sellout products, everything we produced for Costa Rica Plantation Company resulted in a very satisfied client and consumer base.

Being extreme animal lovers and very passionate about the environment ourselves, the ethical implications and positive impact on local growers and wildlife conservation was an honour for us to communicate across the branding.

…and of course, let’s not forget the exceptional taste and reputation of the county renowned (Cornwall and Devon) beans – further enhancing the experience!
